Larry:

Unfortunately, it appears the supplier we used is now out of business :( It does appear, however, that the source Bill mentioned in his earlier post has the products at what appear to be better prices

Bill, Larry and Sharon.. I ordered the Firestik mount and a 3 ft. FSII antenna from Clay's Radio Shop in Texas. Ought to get it around Dec 28 and be able to install it in time for the Copper Canyon Caravan. Thanks a lot for all your help.. Larry

I had a antenna installed and used a L-shape bracket mounted between the hood and upper left finder. It is attached to the inside of the fender below the hood. The cable will fit between the hood opening and enter the cab above the center console. I used a 4 foot fiber glass antenna.

Jerome & Joan:

You ought to talk Connie & Larry into hauling their boat along on the Copper Canyon trip so you all can fish the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean as you make your way from one side to the other and up the Baja California peninsula. Be sure to drop off some Yellow Fin tuna at my house! I'll supply the $2-buck chuck. :D

We're going to leave the boat home for the Copper Canyon trip. But we might try to do some fishing in Baja. :D ..Larry

Anybody know how large a vehicle one needs (metal cab portion) to generate an adequate antenna ground area without going with a No Ground antenna?

I am considering a CB for my Kodiak cab and like the hood-fender installation so I don't have to cut holes in the fender itself. The problem with the Kodiak is that the whole front end tilts away and down from the windshield and there is no "hood" to attach the L bracket to. The mirrors are just about the right height and they are metal connected to the sheet metal of the cab. There is a wiring access hole under the mirror arm that goes into the arm and then into the cab. An antennna wire could be fished into that area with a little effort.

Would this create an odd transmit and reception pattern or restrict the output of the radio in some way?

Merry Christmas ( or Happy Holidays as appropriate)

Steve:

Why don't you give Firestik a call and see what they can recommend for your Kodiak chassis. I've talked with them before and they have been very helpful.

Ph: 602-273-7151

You can also email them at info@firestik.com but they prefer you call on the telephone.
