Expensive repair on the DPF

Post by John S. »

Well, I got a check engine light and they said it was the particulate filter. I had read the code and I knew it was the code. the thing is they could not manually refresh it after trying a number of times so I need a new one. There is only one on the east coast and it is 56oo dollars. I hate these emission things. I also need to replace the track bar as they said it and the ball joint were warn out. I also have a oleak in the oil pan and it is a lot of labor to drop and reseal. I guess it is the first big repair on my coach since I got it.

John, I take it your Born Free is diesel powered. But I don’t know what a Claude is?

Also you said that you need to replace your tractor bar - did you mean track bar? Not sure what a tractor bar is.

Sorry this response is not timely. You said they tried to ‘manually refresh’ the DPF. Is that something they did while still on rig? I understand DPFs can be removed and cleaned. Not sure if that is what you meant, but if not, I hear that will save about $4k. Curious how many miles you have. I assume you have mostly highway miles which I thought was good for the DPFs.

Sound like time to do a DPF delete.

Yes they tried a forced manual refresh on the rig then tried to clean it but no dice. I have about 65k on it. I have a dodge ram with 153k that I just had cleaned out.

John, wondering how things worked out for you. We’re able to have the DPF removed and cleaned saving the cost of new? My BF is not diesel, but have a Ford F250 6.7 diesel, it’s a 2011, but only 105k miles, so I’m keeping it and looking to get a feel for what this may cost in future.

It is working right now so that is good. I will try cleaning next time.
