Smart plug retrofit

Post by LovemyBFCoach »

Hello, I understand that a few people may have retrofitted their 30 amp electrical connection via Kim at the service dept of Born Free. I have ordered this set up as my connection was iffy to say the least. It had a burnt plug that the previous owner replaced the cord, but the connector was bad as well and he never replaced this. I really didn't think it was a very tight of a fit from the git as it seemed to have some wobble. I'm hoping for a much better fitment with the newer type smart plug setup. Can anyone tell me what may be involved, ie larger hole? Thank you, Joe

This is the plug I am referring to:

Joel Lefkowitz & I just did the conversion on my coach this past week.

It took about two hours work, with the toughest part being where we got the inlet wires straightened and inserted into the three holes on the inlet.

No real electrical or mechanical skills required; the SmartPlug instructions are very clear. No change to the hole; it fits exactly into the same space.

(I bought the parts from Camping World, rather than from Kim. CW drop ships them from SmartPlug Systems, and currently has an exclusive on retail sales of the 30 amp RV-style plug cordset.)

$240 from Camping World for cordset and inlet: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/it ... nlet/78758

In the interim, you could buy a replacement cordset, as I did, for under $60: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/it ... d-30/69581

Joe, I installed the Smart Plug back in April 2012. In my opinion, a superior system in many ways.
