New England Sunday

As small New England town had only a couple of churches. One had a beautiful bell tower several stories tall with a large bell that had to be rung by hand. It was difficult for the minister to find a reliable bell ringer. He was very pleased to find a young man, although a bit slow on the uptake, who took over that task and was all the minister could wish for. One Sunday just as it was time to ring the bell the rope, old and frayed, broke. The young man hired for the job did not know what to do. Not thinking it through, he decided to run at high speed crashing his body into the bell. He did this over and over until he was knocked senseless. Then as he crashed against the bell he began to hit and disfigure his face. Finally on one final attempt he missed and flew out of the bell tower and fell on the church grounds. Church members arriving for Sunday service rushed over to give assistance. One said "Does anyone know him." Another said "I don't know his name but his face rings a bell."
