Over the last few weeks, about 150 motorhomes in the Albuquerque area have been broken into and burglarized. Most have been in supposedly secure RV storage facilities. Our MH was broken into twice a couple of weeks ago, while we were away on a trip when we couldn't take the MH. They break windows and bypass any door alarms. In our case, they broke the window one week and left, even though they had burglarized several other MHs in the same facility. Then they came back a week later, and went back into our MH and burglarized a couple of others. And because they "visited" our MH twice with several days in between, we have to pay two deductibles. Nice!!
I don't think these thugs are druggies, because they're very specific and know just what they want. And there's no vandalism, such as graffiti, etc. Mainly, they're after electronics such as flat screen TVs, stereos and satellite TV systems. In our case, they took the installed Pioneer instrument that housed the back up monitor, CD, satellite radio, etc. They also took the control box for the MotoSat dish. And they took the only valuable that we ever leave in the MH, the Garmin GPS. Surprisingly, they left the entire sound system intact. And I guess our TVs didn't meet their high standards, because they left those, as well. Even so, we figure the damage they left us to repair will take at least two months to complete and will cost the insurance company at least $8000.
I posted this info on another forum, and there were responses that this is happening in many places in the US and Canada. So, please keep a careful watch on your MH, especially if it's in a secure" storage facility. And don't leave any loose valuables in the MH. However, don't think that it's completely safe parked next to your house. Our friends' MH was broken into and burglarized, while it was parked right under their bedroom window. They never heard a sound.
