New Style vs Old Style Exterior Storage

For those that have had the newer and older mold style. With the newer mold was there any improvement in the exterior storage. The older style, when compared to other makes of the same era did seem to have more storage than the others.

But it seems like the doors are small compared to the compartment size and access is hindered. Just wondering if the newer body has any more storage or better access.
