Re: Daytime running lights (DRL)
Dallas,
I earlier reported that I believe my 2001 E450 had drl. If your chassis is 2001, methinks yours would had them in the beginning. That's my story and I'm stick'n to it. If you believe me talk to a Ford dealer.

My chassis is a 2000 model.
I can check with Ford to determine if I have DRL.
Here is a solution that I think is simple enough for me. Comments?

Dallas,
Cars, and trucks, are becoming ever more complicated and sophisticated. Even on a 2000 that was underway. As a retarded mechanical engineer I would today make no change to vehicle electrical system nor would I trust a self confessed expert. Sorry but that's me and you did ask. How 'bout a hula dancer on the dash as a reminder?

My '99 F250 has a chime that will ring if the lights are left on and the ignition turned off. Might be something to check into.

MarkB,
A bit of clarification. You have a chime with the keys removed from the ignition before opening either cabin door?

I had to check. Looks like it is 'keyed' to the door. With lights on and parked--key in ignition and engine off with door shut no chime, key out of ignition no chime, only if door is opened with lights on is chime activated with or without key in ignition. But I've never left my lights on;)

To begin with, why are DRL needed?
Sometimes, on Indian reservation head lights are required for safety, but not DRL.
BF is big and noticeable: why running lights?

OK, I give up! I WANT DRL's. Do I have to NEED them? I can give several reasons why they are a good idea, but why should I have to do so?

Cooooool. May have to do this myself. Of course you have to remember to engage it whenever you get in the cab, but that is probably easier than remembering to turn off your lights.

Re: Daytime running lights (DRL)
Search "Daylight Running lights kits" and you will find a selection to pick from. I bought a kit to make the front turn signal lights become daylight running lights with my Miata. The turn signals still act when needed. Not too hard to wire up, and you are only powering the front turn signal bulbs, so your increased electrical use is minimal, as is your likelihood of burning out the other outside lamps and more importantly the dash lights. The dash lights are a real pain to replace when they blacken or burn out. Also your dash and radio display is not dimmed in the daytime, which may make some things hard to see.
