Question about tire valve stems

Post by Trix »

I have the long metal extenders on my dually wheels. I will need new tires sometime this year.

Can those long valve stems be reused or do I need to get new ones?

Thanks!

They can be reused as far as I know. I changed mine over to the full metal stems that do away with the extensions. Eliminates one point of failure. Can't remember the name of them, but they advertise in all the RV magazines.

The name of the all metal valve stems for the E350 & E450 based Born Free motorcoaches is Dually Valve available from Borg Equipment & Supply Co. Inc. Click on this website link to learn more: http://www.bornfreervclub.org/bulletin_ ... =14&t=3514

ya, that's what I meant. Sorry I said 'extensions'.

Can those be reused or do I need to have new ones installed with new tires?

Thanks.

Yourtireshopsupply.com is the subsidiary of Borg Equipment & Supply Co. (Borg Tire) that sells the Dually Valve. Apparently there are some replacement parts for these valves that may need replacement after time:

If you have the Dually Valve brand valve stems installed, it might be prudent to contact the company and ask.

In addition to the Borg Tire Dually Valve, there is a shop called Tire Man in Ridgecrest, CA that manufactures and sells one piece extended valve stems for dually wheels:

Trix

We have just had new tires installed on our 24RB with the valve stems in question. I asked the shop re replacement valve stems, though said I would like to continue using the solid valve stems that were on the Born Free. I was told that the valve stems were good, but that they would replace the rubber gasket.

Trix - They are NOT "good to go". Have them inspect the rubber that seals them at the rim and the valve core. All parts are very reasonable in price, in fact reasonable enough that you should probably have them all replaced no matter how they look - the actual extension or solid parts are the costly part. Your tire place will know, but give them a heads up that you want them to do that - They should have the parts, but always good to play it safe.

But what ever you do, They are NOT "good to go"

BTW - What brand tires are you thinking about?
