Converting hinged door to slide door

Post by fredcarole »

We have a 2005 24ft Rear Bath with a hinged bath door.
This year's new models have a sliding door.
Has anyone converted a hinged door to a slide type?

Lots of folks have converted to the sliding door over the years. In fact, that is probably where the factory got the idea. I am not one of them (I have a BFT), but I am sure several that have will add to this topic.

This is a good topic.
I am also not happy with my standard hinged bathroom door.
Its heavy, and takes up a lot of room when opened.

When you say "sliding door", do you mean "pocket door"?
Anybody have a pic of the new bathroom door in the new BF models?

I was even thinking of making an according door/ bifold door.
Home Depot has the hardware for this type of door.
Or just hanging up a curtain.
Any ideas/ pics will be appreciated.

If you do a search for sliding bathroom door you will get several hits, one on June 18, 2007 by Jim Hillis including pictures of his modification.

Thanks Sam, keep us posted on what you find out.
And yes, where space is at a premium, a conventional hinged door just doesn't cut it.
So, in the new Born Free, what kind of a sliding door are they using?

Bill, thanks for the link.
Looking at the photos, if I was to guess.... looks like "pocket door hardware" was used. Good idea.
But wouldn't work in my case, because my door is in the "corner".
My best bet is for an Accordion door.
Or a BiFold door.

We had our coach built with a curtain (actually two curtains) rather than a door. The best shower solution for my husband's disability was the old-style wet bath with a custom (low) threshold. The factory put a lightweight nylon curtain, weighted at the bottom, on one track and a second decorative fabric curtain on a second track. They also put in a privacy curtain between the kitchen and bathroom area using the same fabric. If you have the wet bath, I think the curtain is a great solution because it is much less claustrophobic, especially while showering. This should be a reasonably easy project for you DIY types out there.
