Join your adventurous fellow Club members on this outstanding Colorful Colorado “rolling rally” beginning in the historic town of Durango, CO, and ending 60 scenic miles west in the wonderful Mesa Verde National Park, home to some of the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites in the United States. Attendees will experience both full service and dry campgrounds during this event.

Durango is a vibrant and historic destination town steeped in western charm, filled with arts, culture, and more restaurants per capita than San Francisco, six craft breweries, two distilleries, museums, shops, and much more! It also is the home of the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad that offers day excursions through spectacular and breath-taking wilderness scenery in the heart of the San Juan Mountains (including a stop at the historic onetime gold and silver mining boomtown of Silverton).

Mesa Verde National Park, home to some of the most notable and best-preserved cliff dwelling ruins in North America, offers an optional Ranger-guided 5-hour 700-year interpretive tour of the historic ruins culminating in a one hour, or more, strenuous walking and ladder climbing trail - but not required. (There are other less strenuous trails available at the visitors center, if desired.) Additionally, the beautiful Metate Room Restaurant in the Far View Lodge located at the top of the park has a great panoramic view of the park. Near the entrance of the park is the Morefield Campground located in a grassy canyon filled with Gambel Oak scrubs and native flowers, and deer and wild turkeys are known to roam in this area. While it is a dry campground, it still has restrooms and showers and there is a nearby village with a gas station, gift shop, and a pet boarding facility if wanted.

At this time the following rally activities are being planned:
  • 3-days/3-nights of full-service camping at or near Durango (location yet to be determined)
  • 3-days/2-nights of dry camping at Morefield Campground near the entrance of MV National Park
  • The first-day get-together with a potluck
  • One day excursion through the scenic San Juan Mountains on the Durango & Silverton RR (including a stop in the old gold/silver mining town of Silverton, CO)
  • One day on your own to explore Durango
  • One day to leisurely drive 60 miles west from Durango to Mesa Verde National Park (Morefield Campground)
  • An optional Mesa Verde Ranger-led 5-Hour 700 Year Interpretive Guided Bus Tour
  • Farewell dinner at the Metate restaurant in the Farview Lodge at MV National Park

  • This event was cancelled in 2020 due to the Pandemic and is now being reconstructed for 2022.
  • To save costs for Club members attending this event, we anticipate some small amount of volunteer coach/carpooling to and from the train and National Park tours.
  • The final activity schedule and pricing will be determined when all costs are known.
