Re: Kwikee battery tray

My answer to the first question was to grind the bolt heads to remove them. That was pretty fast and easy without destroying anything.

More battery tray info . . .

Re: 1994 Born Free now mine

Congratulations on finding a Born Free coach and best of luck in your travels! When it comes to the alignment specs, be specific in your requests to the tech. If it doesn’t already have aftermarket bushings, request them and have the caster set to maximum positive caster with the new bushings (+5 de...

Re: New ball joints @ 86K?

The rubber boots on our lower ball joints were rotted with age when we bought our coach with 55k miles. With no way to add grease to the original joints, they were doomed for replacement a little more than a year after we purchased the coach. I installed Moog parts with grease zerk fittings. You may...

Re: 2002 26 rsb sway bars and steering stabilizer

As Bill has already mentioned, the alignment setting for maximum positive caster makes a big improvement in steering stability by reducing steering wheel sensitivity. This requires an aftermarket bushing to get the 5 degrees of positive castor. We replaced the factory anti-sway bars and found it mad...

Re: Caulking the nosecone to cab roof joint on a 32RQ

Nice work, Roger. That looks like a very important seal considering the water that would come down the face of the nose cone and settle on top of the cab. I noticed 2 sets of clearance lights on your coach. Do both sets work or is the lower set disabled? I replaced our top clearance lights with Pete...

Re: House Batteries - 6V vs 12V

We have a diesel with 2 chassis batteries. The second battery is located under the passenger side bolted to the frame making it difficult to check the water. I replaced both chassis batteries with Duracell 65AGM batteries. For the coach batteries, we have T-105 batteries bought at a local golf car c...

Re: Shocks

Between the kumquat juice and Roger’s magic floor, I may have to change my approach to installing shocks!

Glad to hear you got them installed and are ready for the road. Have a safe trip!

Re: Shocks

You are through the hardest part. The new front shocks have a hex neck and can be held with an open-end wrench. The top nuts on the front shocks tighten all the way down until the threads bottom out. It takes a while, but you’ll know when you get there. Be careful not to over-tighten the keeper nuts...

Re: Alignment? Tire balance?

It sounds like a tire balance problem. Check the tires for abnormal wear that would cause a balance problem. The root of the problem could be with the alignment –too much toe is a common problem that wears the inside edges of the tires. If the tire tread shows signs of cupping with uneven high and l...

Re: Shocks

While you are under the rear of the coach installing shocks, take a look at the air bag mounts. Look for interference on the brackets that could be causing a harsh ride. Inflate the air bags to 60psi or so and look for wear spots on the brackets. Then deflate the air bags to 0psi and check the align...

Re: Shocks

Just another note and a photo on the front shocks . . . I compressed and tied the front shocks on the workbench before installing them. I then installed the bottom on the lower post mount and loosely attached the keeper nut. I then aligned the top, cut the rope in one controlled squeeze with wire cu...

Re: Shocks

Curt and Jo, I have replaced our shocks twice on the front and once on the back. I’ve monitored tire wear and quality of ride and feel the front shocks are the most important. When the front shocks wear or are not up to the road conditions, the coach will porpoise (move up and down while the rear re...

Re: Ford air conditioner

Check the air gap on the compressor clutch. When this happened to ours, I found the air gap in the compressor clutch gapped too wide. The electromagnetic field didn’t have enough energy to pull in the outside metal disk firmly enough to keep the compressor engaged. On ours it was an easy fix. I remo...
