Re: An alternative to Smart Tile: MusselBound Adhesive Tile

My investigation found tile to be much heavier than Smart Tile. Weight is a big consideration for me as I always bump up against max rear axle weight. Duh - I wasn't even thinking about this as an alternative to Smart Tile in the BF. You're right Dallas, stone tile, grout and thinset - way too heav...

Re: An alternative to Smart Tile: MusselBound Adhesive Tile

Handy, but better get it right the first time. With tile mortar you can move the tile around or replace a tile before the mortar sets. You can also level tile on uneven surfaces with thinset - but not this. You might find it useful for small decorative applications - but I can't think of one off ha...

Re: And yet, another Winegard Antenna.

Am I the only one thinking: Florida + tall mast = LIGHTNING Sucker!!! Tom, do you ground that mast to the power pedestal, ground stake or something outside? When there's a threat of lighting we disconnect power and disconnect the computer (our TV's a PVR) from the Winegard and lower it. These things...

Re: Any tips to clean mounding around coach door?

This would be a good time to consider replacing the molding; and after you've pulled the old stuff out of the track check all the screws for tightness and a good water seal and replace and reseal any rusted screws.

Re: Is this a covered up window?

Cabover window leaks are not just a BF problem. I've been hearing about leaks and rock damage on various brands for over 25 years. Our Lance cabover camper required new caulk yearly after about year 5. It was a pain but I loved the view and light (and I'm just as happy to not have the hassles on our...

Re: How many watts do I have?

Without more information, best guess: it's probably a 200W system. Most average sized panels are roughly 1000 sq inches, are usually rectangular (of varying proportions), and are rated ~ 100W each. The rating usually assumes the panels are in unfiltered direct sunlight and are positioned perpendicul...

Re: Permanent Bed Vs couch/dinette

Trade-offs: Before the Born Free we had a cab-over pick-up camper. This bed had a full queen spring mattress and room to sit up in bed; and a full cab-over curtained window (which never leaked in 13 years). It also had an emergency exit hatch/window above the bed - great for ventilation and falling ...

Re: What do you use to unscrew stuck plug?

My tool kit has channel lock pliers. I've never encountered a plug that was soo tight that the channel locks were close to breaking it. With foot long handles and large square jaws they work perfectly.

Re: Tesla pulling Airstream

Not sure of how far you can go on a charge? No problemo  Just fire up the generator and plug the car in. When plugging your electric RV at the campground -how fast do you think it will take for the campground operators to cut your cord :?: (I have heard some campgrounds are now providi...

Re: Please Help Me wire my Battery Monitor

Steve, We don't know what your current configuration is. Not all BFs are wired the same and people add devices by tapping directly to batteries (i.e., Solar panels, controllers, inverters et. al.) And, cut-off switches and 6v or 12 v batteries change the physical location of wires. It would be easy ...

Re: Please Help Me wire my Battery Monitor

I think your 300W inverter is most sensible! Anything more is overkill and antithetical to the spirit of boondocking :!: * And the 100A capacity is ample for your needs. If the meter has an automatic shut-off that completely shuts off power after a short viewing period then I would be tempted to put...

Re: Please Help Me wire my Battery Monitor

Steve, the 'load' is everything your battery powers except the PZEM-51. So, the shunt should be wired in series with the negative cable near the battery. The wire size is dependent on load and length. Assuming you are simply installing an ammeter and not adding batteries or additional load - connect...

Re: Water Pump problem

John's post reminded me  A bubble can remain in the water heater even when water is flowing to the taps. Turn on the water pump, with all taps closed and the system pressurized go to the outside water heater panel and lift the steel lever on the safety relief valve near the top of the water he...

Re: What should I look for when buying used BF?

Google "Used RV buyer's inspection OR checklists"; there are quite a few. Each have relevant entries - some are kind of lame. Then make your own complete list from them. If you are buying from a private party, first, ask to see, appliance and chassis manuals, maintenance logs and records/r...
