Re: Critical Preventative Maintenance

Unless I missed it, nobody has mentioned replacing all rubber hoses. Ditto fuel filter, the one below driver's door. Spark plug wiring ought to be changed when plugs are.

Re: Out of state RV purchase and transport question

Well, right about 36 hours from takeoff from airport and around 1,200 miles of driving, and I am now proud owner of a 98' 26' Born Free President. Other than a souvenir window chip courtesy of the Ohio turnpike and a few crazy drivers, the drive was pretty uneventful. I will try to post a trip repo...

Re: Out of state RV purchase and transport question

My experience is that you must have some sort of temporary or in-transit plate issued by DMV of state where purchase is made. Be sure to have proof of purchase from an individual or your state may want to collect sales/use tax when you apply for plates at home. Hope this helps because states are all...

Re: Winter Storage

Think about rodent and maybe insect issues. For me it is taping furnace vents, moth balls in water heater, beneath frig., and under hood. Probably best to remove or recharge all batteries every month or so.

Re: 350 Chassis vs 450

We had 2001 23RK on the 450 chassis. At the time we bought, both 350 and 450 chasis were available with expressed concern about harsh ride on the 450. My decision was based on concerns 350 could be too easily overloaded.

Re: WOW, Born Free is coming out with Mercedes Sprinter Cha

This is just my opinion for whatever it is worth? I suspect that the arrival of the Mercedes/Dodge class C some years back was a major competitive factor for Born Free on E-350, E-450 Chassis. Price, the diesels, and "European" design and layout just might have proven challenging. Maybe th...

Tom,
I would get a small solar cell, or a 120 V trickle charger.

Re: Oil Viscosity

We acquired an 07 32ft President recently. Previous coach was an 02 26RSB, which we loved. Anyway, the current coach has an 8.1 Chev medium duty truck engine coupled to an Allison 5 spd. The 8.1 engine oil capacity is 10 qts. The previous owner ran 15-40 weight diesel oil in the coach. Believe so c...

Re: Input for coach absent of Spare tire

In 20+ years with RVs and Good Sam or Coachnet, both have been OK on 2-3 occasions total. While it may no longer be correct, AAA is organized by state and your agreement is not necessarily binding in another state. Learned that TX would not move 5th wheel when truck expired, only the truck. AZ where...

Re: Changes in Born Free Dealerships

Concerning purchases from RV dealers, I have always believed that a starting (and perhaps final) offer to purchase should be no more than 15% below sticker. Some years back Born Free made a move to set up dealers and immediately raised "list price". There was quite a furor raised by existi...

Re: leaf springs added on 2010 BF?

I would suggest adding Super Springs. My 2011 has them as built and I believe Humboldt evolved from the past tradition of air bags to them after 2008. Others may know more but there are stories relating to how this change occurred and some retrofits. The 27 foot units were more subject to ride heigh...

Re: When I see a Gas V10 BF w/ Banks Power, whats it mean?

Steve, Your engine is good for just so many horsepower hours. More horsepower, less hours. Also there are issues with some Born Free models about exhaust pipe routing vis-a-vis under floor equipment. And, depending on your state there can be big time emission reg. problems. The Banks folks do not ha...

I guess you are saying FX2012MT (sealed)? If that is right, is it underneath completely in the open?

Inverter Location and Brand

I believe I heard that a couple of years ago, BF relocated the now standard inverter to some place outside the coach. Can somebody with a newer one let me know where it is and what brand? Reason for inquiry is that for another purpose I'm looking for a 2000W inverter which could be "outside&quo...

Re: Winegard Carryout Antenna

We had a 2001 24RK and used a manually aimed DTV dish for about 10 years. I am assuming TV wiring same as yours. While I never really gave any thought to this, I just didn't turn on the signal booster for roof antenna. Outside went to coax connection by water fill. Inside connection went to DTV rece...
