I-Rally Description

Theme: Washington - Rivers Run Through It

Join us for a "low desert" adventure in SE Washington State.

On Tuesday we will have an optional tour of nearby Red Mountain Wineries. The Red Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area) is a premier wine region in southeast Washington known for world class Cabernet, Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and other varieties. The first vines were planted in 1975, and the AVA is now home to many of the state's most celebrated vineyards. As a group, we will decide which wineries to visit. Designated drivers will pick us up at the campground and take us to the chosen wineries. Tasting at any winery is optional, with the price running between $20-$22 per person at each winery. There is no cost to just visit.

Wednesday's optional activity is a visit to the Hanford REACH Museum. From the Ice Age floods to the Atomic Age, there is so much of cultural and historical importance and impact that shaped the Mid-Columbia Basin region's past, establishes its present, and will guide its future.

Finally, on Thursday we have planned an optional visit to the Coyote Canyon Mammoth Dig Site. We will have a guided tour of the active Ice Age paleontological excavation for mammoths. We will listen to a presentation about the history, discovery and findings at the site, plus there is a guided tour of the laboratory activities and displays of key specimens and the interpretive panels. The remaining time will be spent at the dig site observing the actual digging of bones and participating in the wet screening operations.

Fishing is available in the Yakima river that runs next to the campground. A Washington State fishing license is required which may be purchased online or at Patnodes True Value Hardware in Benton City.

We will be the only campers in Horn Rapids Park during this rally. For this reason, we need a minimum of 15 coaches to register for this rally. Registration is limited to 22 coaches, because that's the maximum number of sites in the campground.
