I - Rally Description

Discover Lake Red Rock located in Marion County and near Pella. Lake Red Rock has numerous walking/biking trails, boat docks and a beach. Your hosts will show you beautiful downtown Pella to view thousands of tulips, the parades, great food, Dutch Costumes, city tours, museums, businesses, entertainment and more. The Biggest Event will be Thursday for the Tulip Time Festival, with the group being downtown all day! Other things to do in the area include National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville, Central College, and other parks near both Pella, Oskaloosa and Knoxville. Frisian Farm Cheese House and Tasssel Ridge Winery also available for touring in the Pella/Oskaloosa area.

We will be staying at Wallashuck Lake Red Rock Campground where 20 sites with electric hookups have been reserved. There's a free dump station and water in the campground.

8:00 am Pella Rolscreen Depot Museum (Pella Corp) (#2)
9:00 am Tour of LELY (#3)
1.5 hour tour
Closed-toe shoes recommended!
11:30 am Vermeer Museum (not that Vermeer) (#4)
1:00 pm Pick up box lunch
Eat at Cordova Tower (#5), weather permitting.
2:30 pm Time on your own.
Use the bike/walking trails to see birds at Horn's Ferry Bridge (#6) and below the dam.
Take a walk on the trails around Red Rock Lake and possibly take the dam tour.
6:30 pm Catered meal at shelter
 
Tuesday, May 2
9:00 am Bus departs campground
9:30 am Shopping in Pella:
Jaarsma Bakery and Vander Ploeg Bakery Co.
Ulrich Meat Market and in't Veld's Meat Market
Dining on your own at local restaurants and walking through Central Park.
Enjoy the 147-bell carillon (the Klokkenspel (#7)) as you watch eight mechanical figures portray people and moments in Pella's history. The 5 bronze bells at the top were cast in Holland.
1:00 pm Return to campground
6:30 pm Potluck dinner. Bring your own drinks. Meat will be provided and table service
 
Wednesday, May 3
9:15 am Bus departure
10:00 am Marie's Tea Room (#8) and Scholte House Tour (Coffee and snacks) (#8)
12:00 pm Lunch on your own uptown
1:00 pm Vermeer Windmill (#9) and Historical Village (#9) tours
3:30 pm Rotary Wagon Tour of town
5:00 pm Dutch Dinner and Show with Dutchess at Central College Graham Conference Center (#10)
 
Thursday, May 4
  Tulip Festival!
10:00 am Bus departure
10:30 am Arrive in downtown Pella.
Everyone will be given a magazine of all the activities available.
Meals, snacks, and drinks will be on your own.
1:00 pm Grandstand Program (tickets will be given to you and bleacher seat area instructions)
Parade will start after activities, Dutch Dancing, and street scrubbers.
6:30 pm Feethouden Entertainment at Grandstand
8:30 pm Lighted Evening Parade
9:30 pm Bus returns to campground
 
Friday, May 5
8:00 am Dutch Pastries, Coffee, and Juice Breakfast with Rally meeting
9:00 am Check-out or extension or transferring to another campsite

Registration

Attendance is limited to current members and alumni members of the Born Free Leap'n Lions RV Club. Membership is only $15.00 per year. A membership application may be found on the Join Us! webpage.
