I - Rally Description

Discover the upper end of the Columbia River Gorge! The 81-acre state park offers 4,700 feet of river shoreline and facilities for camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming. Backed by the golden hills of the often-windy eastern Columbia River Gorge, the area is significant for its scenic beauty, access to the surrounding natural wonders, and cultural history. Trainspotting is also a part of the Maryhill experience. The Maryhill Stonehenge, a full-scale concrete replica of Stonehenge, stands on a bluff not far from the park. Group reservations have been made at the Goldendale Observatory--a must-see attraction. Other things to do in the area include the Maryhill Museum of Art, Presby Mansion Museum, She Who Watches petroglyph, Maryhill and Waving Tree wineries, Gunkel Orchards Fruit Stand, Dwinell Country Ales, Maryhill Loops Road, and the Dalles Dam. This is a great and inexpensive recreation spot on the Columbia River.

We will be in a group camping area. 8 sites in the group area have electric and water hookups. To encourage early registration, the first 8 coaches to register will be offered these hookups. Campers can choose to boondock. According to park personnel, these hookups can be shared, possibly permitting up to 16 coaches connected. When those fill up, only boondock sites will be available. There is a free dump station in the park. Individual spots with full hook-ups not in the group area (but closeby) are approximately $40 per site. This cost would be in addition to rally registration. Campers who desire full hookups and don't mind a spot away from the group will have to reserve directly with Washington State Parks (https://washington.goingtocamp.com/, phone 360-902-8844).

Campground map:

Optional activities are available with any fees paid on site by participants:

  • Maryhill Museum ($12 adults, $10 seniors)
  • Goldendale Observatory ($10 per day per vehicle. This admission is also good for other Washington State Parks, including the She Who Watches petroglyph walk).
  • She Who Watches petroglyph ($10 per day per vehicle. This admission is also good for other Washington State Parks, including Goldendale Observatory.)

Points to note:

  • Evening campfires will depend upon the fire danger at the time.
  • The campground shelter is available for informal gatherings anytime during the rally except when group activities are scheduled.
  • The Thursday morning Tour of Coaches is an opportunity to see and share coach renovations, additions, and decorating ideas.
  • We can have our own private tour of the She Who Watches petroglyph if we have at least 20 people. The walking tour is a two-mile round trip on flat ground.
  • State Park Admissions:
    • Anyone who camps with us on the group site at Maryhill will receive a car tag for admission to the campground. It is only good for that purpose.
    • Those who book individual sites at Maryhill will also receive similar tags, again only good for admission to the campground.
    • Admission to any other Washington State Park requires the purchase of a State Park Pass at the cost of $10 per day or $30 per year. This applies to Goldendale Observatory, She Who Watches and any other State Park location.
